6. Preparations For Another Trip

There’s an air of suppressed excitement wafting through the Adam’s household. In one week’s time we’ll be heading off to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and the “100-Acre Wood House”. It’ll only be for four days, and two of those will be spent traveling, but it’ll be the last occasion we visit until after the winter.

I do have one secret worry, though; Trish doesn’t sleep well in strange beds. Blow-Up Bertha is hardly interior sprung. We did consider hiring a truck and taking our spare queen-size from home, but for just three nights the cost couldn’t be justified.

Bertha’s noisy enough with one sleeping on her, I dread to think of the cacophony she’ll create with two of us tossing and turning. Hopefully, she won’t have developed a puncture since I was last there.

My previous concerns about the security of the property were put at rest this week by the contractor who mows our lawns. Included with his invoice for the latest cut were some digital images he’d kindly taken. I’ve included a couple of them below.

The house looks fine, and the foliage is just beginning to take on fall color.

Clicking on the images will enlarge them.

We leave early next Saturday, as it’s necessary to arrive there before dark. The plan is to steam-clean all the carpets and leave a key with the plumber, who will go in sometime in October and winterize all the water pipes and fitments, before the big U.P. freeze sets in.
